M4's went into their 4th consecutive home match (5 counting the walkover match against Southgate Adelaide) in a sparse weekend of hockey fixtures in the East Region due to it being a slip weekend playing against a Saffron Walden 7's side who the M4's played on the opening match day. With a back 3 comprising of Tony Farnan as CB, Joe Gore as RB and Chris Niewdach as LB who worked the ball up well to James Hamilton in CM who tried to find on numerous occasions the strikers stick of Simon Russell. On the 9th minute M4's won themselves a PC and with a push out from Josh Lake the ball eventually found the stick of Ian Jackson who slotted it past the Saffron Walden keeper and M4's found themselves ahead. Unfortunately, 4 minutes later M4's were caught out by Saffron Walden's press from their midfield and conceded an equaliser. However, M4's continued to create chances with Alex Lake in RM linking up well with Geoff Trew playing in RW and Joe Gore linking up well with Jon Parker in LM. M4's continued to play well, especially in the last 10 minutes of the first period, and the 4 - 1 score line at half time did not reflect the team effort from everyone. M4's came out for the second period playing as they did in the last 10 minutes of the first period with Leon Harvey creating numerous chances into the D, however M4's managed to conceed 4 further goals giving a final score line of 8 - 1....MoM Chris Niewdach and Leon Harvey
